The Uniqueness of Teak and Mahogany

Natural finished of wood furniture created makes people to choose more on wood to load their living space furniture. Tropical hardwoods like teak and mahogany are seen as the people choice for the market today. There are some uniqueness between mahogany and teak that can be a consideration when people want to fill their home with wood kind furniture.

Color
Teak has yellow honey shade brown to dark brown color. When it stores as outdoor furniture for one or two years, it will turn soft, as silver gray. And it stays like that for years. On the contrary, mahogany has golden to deep red brown of dark-colored wood.

Texture and Grain
Teak wood is generally straight grained, but occasionally wavy. It has a coarse, uneven texture and rich figuring. While mahogany have texture similar to teak but interlocked or straight grain, often with a ribbon figure and a coarse texture.

Durability
The durability of teak is unquestioned for its resistance to any climate and anti termite. As a result, teak is best placed both in indoor and outdoor furniture. Teak is more durable for furniture while mahogany has its lack for outdoor furniture. Mahogany is strong for indoor furniture and need more attention if placed as outdoor furniture. It has bending strength, low stiffness and shock resistance.

Maintenance
Teak is easy to maintain since it has strong durability to any weather condition and resistant to termite and insects. Only by oiling or get the dust away regularly will keep teak furniture last for years to come. Then, the mahogany furniture has similar simple maintenance to teak.

Usage
Teak is for high quality indoor and outdoor furniture. Teak is even used for building ships, deck railing and bridge construction. Mahogany with its smooth grain structure is much better suited for indoor furniture. Before the furniture has risen, mahogany has been a well-known material for acoustic instrumental.
